A man who threatened to murder his daughter, another woman and three young children will spend this year behind bars.
John Jackson was out on licence at the time and will not be released from prison again until next year after being sentenced to 15 months at Dundee Sheriff Court on Saturday.
Nine months of the sentence was the unexpired portion of his previous sentence and Sheriff Elizabeth Munro added another six months for the threatening incident at his daughter’s house on Friday.
The court heard John Allan Jackson, 49, had been invited to stay with his daughter for the festive period after being released from prison in October.
The relationship turned sour, however, and she asked him to leave her Murrayfield Drive flat on Thursday as she was unhappy with his behaviour.
Depute fiscal Eilidh Robertson told the court Jackson’s daughter lived at the address.
She was being visited by another woman and there were three young children in the house when Jackson returned the next day.
Ms Robertson told the court: “Through the day on January 2, the accused continually tried to get access to the locus by buzzing the buzzer at the communal close entrance, demanding the return of property to him.
“However, she [his daughter] ignored the accused because she didn’t want him in her flat.”
The court heard by 5pm Jackson did manage to gain entry to the close and started shouting and banging on the front door of the flat.
He shouted: ‘If you don’t open this door I’ll kick it down’ and ‘When I get in I’m going to kill you all’ even after being told he was scaring the children.
His daughter phoned the police, who found him still shouting at the door.
He later admitted behaving in a threatening and abusive manner during the incident.
Defence solicitor Jim Laverty said Jackson admitted fault for his relationship with his daughter breaking down and that he left the flat ‘grudgingly’.
He said Jackson lost control of his temper and now felt remorseful at having upset his daughter.
