Two major roads in Dundee are to close this week for works.
The eastbound carriageway of Kingsway East, outside the fire station, will close from Wednesday night into Thursday morning with traffic directed on to the opposite side of the road.
The closure, from 7.30pm to 6.30am, will allow for road marking works.
At the same time, the northbound side of the A90 Forfar road between the Fintry Drive roundabout and the Emmock Road roundabout will shut for the same reason.
BEAR Scotland says the works have been timed to keep traffic flowing as best as possible.
A spokesperson said: “The works on the A90 Forfar road and the A972 Kingsway East have been scheduled outwith rush hour times so it is unlikely any major disruptions will be caused.
“The works are part of localised repairs as part of our ongoing maintenance of the roads which ensures the safety of the motorist.”
Meanwhile, the eastbound lane of the Kingsway, at the Myrekirk roundabout, will close between 7.30pm on Saturday and 6.30am on Sunday and again the following night for BT manhole works.
East End councillor Will Dawson, Dundee’s city development convener, said: “When roadworks of this nature come about I would advise people to either avoid unnecessary journeys or try to use alternative routes wherever possible.
“The roads are monitored and the times that have been chosen by the body carrying out the works decided the roads are at their quietest between those times.
“Congestion on these roads does take place and closing only one lane would help the matter, but the decision is made, more or less, to avoid most of the traffic during the rush hour.”
Mr Dawson believes traffic light systems already in place at the Kingsway and Forfar road will ease any build-up of traffic.
