A collapsed manhole on the A90 caused problems for motorists on the Forfar Road and Kingsway on Thursday.
Scottish Water had to carry out emergency repair work at the Claverhouse junction northbound after the incident at 3.45pm.
A spokesman for Scottish Water said: “Scottish Water’s contractors are repairing a collapsed manhole opposite Morrisons supermarket at the junction of Claverhouse Road and Forfar Road A90 on the northbound.
“Work is under way and will be finished tonight, however the replacement road surface needs time to cure and the traffic management should be removed later this evening.
“Scottish Water apologises for any inconvenience to commuters and local residents.”
A spokeswoman for the police said they were aware of the situation and diversions were in place.
Traffic was backed up along the Forfar Road from the Kingsway as the road was down to a single lane to avoid the works.
