Dundee’s Reading Rooms venue could be approved for a 3.30am licence on Fridays and Saturdays.
If granted by the council’s licensing board today the club would have the latest opening times in the city.
Andy Barton organises the long-running Headway house and techno night at the Reading Rooms.
He said: “We regularly bring international guest DJs from across Europe, USA and beyond to the Reading Rooms.
“We require the extra hour as sometimes they will DJ in Glasgow or Edinburgh or Aberdeen first before making their way to Dundee.
“However, we have had a number of rejections due to the 2.30am curfew. If we want to keep attracting DJs of this calibre to Dundee, and make it financially viable, then we need a permanent 3.30am licence.”
He added: “We also noticed a significant downturn in numbers since the bars were granted late licences.”
A Police Scotland spokesman said: “Crime levels and incidents display an upward trend from 11pm to 4am.
“It is no coincidence that these hours correspond with pubs and nightclubs closing times.
“Any change in opening hours of any major establishment within the city is likely to impact on these high risk times, potentially increasing the peak period and its duration.”
