A 26-year-old painter and decorator caught with more than 3,700 child abuse images had sentence deferred until next month.
Scott Craig claimed he did not view the images of nude children posing on a beach for sexual gratification, but found it “bizarre how people lived in foreign countries”, Dundee Sheriff Court heard on Wednesday.
Police had forced entry to his flat on a search warrant and recovered a laptop that was found to contain indecent images of children.
Depute fiscal Eilidh Robertson told the court: “When informed of the images found on the laptop and asked if he would agree they were indecent images of young children posing erotically, he replied: “It’s all around the beach.”
When asked if they were posing erotically on the beach, he replied: “I don’t know how to answer that.”
Five indecent videos and 3,770 images were recovered across Craig’s electronic devices.
The court was told that all of the pictures and videos were at the lowest end of the grading scale for child abuse material.
Craig, of Sandeman Street, Dundee, admitted possessing indecent images of children at his home between December 2013 and April 2014.
Sheriff Elizabeth Munro deferring sentence until February 10 and placed Craig on the sex offenders register.
