Baby Corra McGinty made a dramatic entrance into the world when her mother gave birth in the car park outside Ninewells Hospital in Dundee.
Parents Shaun McGinty (24) and Nicola Geissler (25) welcomed their little bundle of joy just moments after pulling up at the hospital’s maternity unit.
Her unexpected arrival means little Corra has a distinctive birth certificate that records her place of birth as the labour suite car park at Ninewells.
The couple, from Menzieshill, were forced to make a mad dash to the nearby hospital on Tuesday night after being sent home just an hour before.
However, baby Corra just couldn’t wait to arrive and her mother started to give birth just as the car reached the hospital car park.
Proud dad Shaun said they had been left stunned by their daughter’s quick arrival.
“It was around 10pm on Tuesday when we went up to the hospital because Nicola was having pains.
“We were told she was only 2cm dilated and that it would be a while before anything happened so we were sent back home.
“My family were contacting me asking what had happened and I told them it would probably be the next day because we got sent home.”
However, shortly after returning to their flat in Menzieshill, Nicola started to feel rapid bouts of pain and the couple immediately returned to hospital.
First-time mum Nicola, who works as an audio-typist, said, “We called the hospital when the pain started to come quick and they told us to come straight back in.
“The pain was so bad I couldn’t walk. Shaun had to carry me to the car.
“My mum drove us to the hospital but she was born just as we got right outside the doors at the car park.”
Midwives rushed to help the couple and, within seconds, Corra was born in the back of their car.
Shaun, who works as a labourer in the city, was allowed to cut the cord in the back of the car, then hold his baby daughter for the first time.
Corra, who arrived only two days earlier than expected, weighed 6lbs 9oz and measured 49.5 cm.
“She was born at 11.05pm, just over an hour after we went home,” said Shaun.
“Everything was perfectly fine with Corra and Nicola. They were both fine.
“We couldn’t believe how fast it happened.
“Everyone said I was calm but I was shaking like a leaf.”
Despite the dramatic start to her life, Corra’s delighted parents said she has been the perfect baby since they returned home on Wednesday afternoon.
“The birth was all just a blur it happened so fast,” Shaun said. “She has been really good. She sleeps all the time. All the drama was at the beginning.
“Her birth certificate even says the place of birth is the labour suite car park at Ninewells Hospital.
“That will be a good story for her to tell when she grows up.
“We are over the moon. She is absolutely gorgeous.”
