New homes could soon take shape on a section of long empty land north of Foggyley Gardens in Dundee’s Lochee area.
The green space once formed part of the grounds of an 18th Century jute mansion and more recently was home to flats.
Since their demolition around a decade ago, the land has been empty, but Strathmore Homes have now unveiled plans to build 14 semi-detatched homes and seven detached homes.
Local architecture firm ARKTX has drawn up plans for the site, which it believes will meet council criteria and are line with Lochee’s regeneration framework, which aims to provide more housing for residents.
In a report to the council, the firm writes: “The proposed site sits within the former land of Foggyley House, a jute mansion of the late 1800s. The land has been partially developed into housing and the site itself is the former location of multi-storey flats, which were demolished in the early 2000s.
“Some of the prominent landscape features of the former jute mansion’s estate remain. In particular, there is a prevalence of mature specimen trees that sit adjacent to the eastern stone boundary wall that date from the era of the Cox estate.
“These will not be affected by this current application and are to be retained as part of the proposals to preserve the historical context of the site and maintain the established boundary condition.”
