A Dundee councillor has expressed shock after used needles and a knife were found beside a children’s play park in the city.
There were also packaged needles and what appeared to be a crack pipe in the grassy area beside St Kilda’s play park in St Mary’s.
Councillor Borthwick explained that after an apparent improvement in the area, the problem of drugs was “rearing its ugly head again”.
He said: “I received a phonecall on Saturday about needles, a Stanley knife and other drug paraphernalia at St Kilda’s park.
“This play park was a result of a great deal of effort by families in the area to bring these facilities to St Mary’s.
“I know that the police and the community wardens do their best, but it is disappointing that some individuals have so little respect for the community.
“For I while I believed that we were making inroads into tackling drug abuse in this area.
“Now it seems that the problem is rearing its ugly head again.
“It doesn’t take any stretch of the imagination to say that children could be curious and pick these things up.
“Even if the items are cleared up I’m afraid that this will repeat itself.
“The majority of people in the St Mary’s area are decent and hardworking, so this must be very upsetting for them.”
