A Dundee councillor is pressing for a former plant nursery site to be tidied up after years of neglect have seen it become extremely overgrown.
The former Lauries Nursery off Perth Road has become increasingly unkempt since the site closed for business more than 10 years ago, with mature trees, bushes and plants having been largely left to their own devices.
The south-facing site extends to 2.72 acres one of the largest available development sites within the west end residential district and is being offered for sale with permission to build eight detached and 12 semi-detached houses.
However, there has been no significant movement since the planning permissions were granted in 2007 and West End Councillor Fraser Macpherson has become increasingly concerned about the overgrown state of the area.
In May Mr Macpherson contacted the council’s planning enforcement officer about the state of the site and a letter was sent to the owners believed to be a Forfar-based construction firm asking for remedial work to be carried out.
However, the request in the letter has gone unheeded and Mr Macpherson has now asked for the matter to be pursued further and said the council had enforcement powers they could use if no progress was made.
He said, “Back in May I mentioned that I had raised with the city council’s planning enforcement officer the state of the former Laurie’s Nursery site on Perth Road, west of the Botanic Garden, and she had written to the owners seeking a tidy-up.
“Thus far, her letters to the owners have not resulted in action by them. I have, therefore, been back in touch with her asking that the matter continue to be pursued. If necessary, the council can serve a Wasteland Notice on the owners to effect a tidy-up.
“It is disappointing that some 10 years after the site planning brief for this site was approved, the area is in such an overgrown state.”
