Washing machine the likely source of Windsor Bar fire

This week’s fire at the Windsor Bar in Dundee may have been caused by a washing machine.

Firefighters battled flames at the Albert Street premises on Wednesday after a fire broke out in the basement.

Tayside Fire and Rescue station manager Fraser Scott said: ”The early indications are that the washing machine was involved in the fire. A female employee was able to tell us that it was on fire and the fire had spread from there.

”Early intervention allowed us to get to the incident quickly and we able to prevent it from spreading further.”

The cellar of the bar was left badly damaged by the flames, while the bar suffered smoke damage.

There were no customers in the property at the time of the blaze and two members of staff managed to escape.
