A hooded thug who mugged a registered blind 88-year-old woman in a Lochee car park has been jailed for 32 months.
Garry Donnan was also placed on a one-year supervised release order to take effect upon his release.
Sheriff Elizabeth Munro told him: “This was a despicable offence against a very vulnerable elderly woman.”
Dundee Sheriff Court had previously heard Donnan had toldhis partner: “I’ve done a robbery” after the attack.
He then shaved his head and beard and burned his clothing to evade detection.
Dundee Sheriff Court was told three children came to the aid of thedistressed woman, who was said to be too afraid to leave her home, followingDonnan’s cowardly robbery in September.
The 24-year-old also wrote a confession note which was later found by police in his pocket.
Depute fiscal EilidhRobertson told the court the woman was walking towards Lochee High Street at around 3.15pm carrying her handbag, whichcontained her bus pass,pension book, two wallets and some money.
Ms Robertson said: “The accused approached her from behind, seized the strap of her handbag and pulled it sharply towards him, managing to pull herhandbag free from her body.
“The pulling on her bag caused her to fall to the ground.She suffered minor grazing to her knees, elbow and pain to her neck.”
Donnan, 24, a prisoner at Perth, admitted assaulting the woman in the car park at Tofthill on September 14 byapproaching her from behind, pulling a handbag from her possessioncausing her to fall to the ground, all to her injury and robbing her of the handbag and its contents.
