An oil worker is to stand trial accused of bigamy after allegedly marrying a South African in Dundee while still wed to another woman.
John Pearson, a subsea engineer who now lives and works in Dubai, is said to have married Taryn Ulli Flint on May 25 2007. Prosecutors claim he was still the lawful husband of Ashley Boath.
It is alleged Pearson then lived with Miss Flint now known as Taryn Pearson as husband and wife at an address in Dundee.
Pearson, 46, of Broughty Ferry Road, pleaded not guilty to a charge of bigamy.
Jack Brown, defending, said: “It is possible that some of the evidence can be agreed. There are several witnesses based in South Africa, as that’s where the original marriage was.
“That’s the one that requires to be found to be valid.”
Sheriff Elizabeth Munro asked the Crown to look into setting up a video link for evidence to be taken from South African witnesses rather than forcing them to travel to Scotland.
