He was a printer’s assistant in the West Ward Works machine room in Dundee, working on the four-colour printing presses. A Dundee native, he initally trained as a butcher after leaving Glebelands and Stobswell schools. Mr Ross retired from DC Thomson on December 18 2004. After retiring, he enjoyed his new found free time, spending plenty of time with his wife Irene and the rest of his family. His son Wayne said: “He was always very content in himself. He loved his family and he was always there for us. “Dad didn’t pry, but he was always reliable. And, of course, he loved cowboy films, and spending time with his family. “He will be very sadly missed.” Mr Ross is survived by his wife, his sons Wayne and Tommy, daughter Shona, eight grandchildren and three great grandchildren.
