Health board proposes to demolish former wards at Ashludie Hospital

NHS Tayside is proposing to demolish three disused ward blocks at the former Ashludie Hospital in Monifieth.
Ashludie House is a listed building, and because the wards are nearby and were built before 1948 they are regarded as being subject to that listing too, even though they are of no architectural merit.
NHS Tayside’s agents, Capita, said the hospital had been closed completely since last September and there was a high level of interest in the site from housing developers. There are already plans for a major expansion of the town on sites close to Ashludie’s grounds.
Capita said: “NHS Tayside seeks to expedite a site disposal and secure an asset value within the current financial year. Any monies secured through disposal will be reinvested in healthcare provision.”
The three buildings included wards 1-5 and 7-10, and Capita said their demolition was essential to the development as they could not be reused without expensive repair.
