A former Dundee man has been named as the victim of a traffic accident in Aberdeenshire.
David Tolmie, 43, who was known to family and friends as Flea, died when his black BMW 328 Coupe collided with a lamppost on the northbound carriageway of the A90 near Bridge of Muchalls around 4.30am on Saturday.
He had to be cut free from the wreckage by firefighters and the road was closed for several hours while police began an investigation into the accident. No other vehicle was involved.
Mr Tolmie’s family said: “We are shocked and stunned by what has happened and cannot believe we will not see David, or Flea, again.
“David was such a thoughtful person and touched the lives of everyone he met and will be missed by so many.
“Flea had such a big heart and was invincible to us.
“David was a massive fan of Dundee United and regularly attended matches to cheer the team on. We will be taking him home to Dundee where he was so popular.
“As well as being a committed and loving family man, David was also dedicated to his bassett hound Dougal, who he got from a rescue home and loved to bits.”
Mr Tolmie, who lived in the Cove area, is survived by his parents, Kenny and Ann, his sister Rosslyn, his long-term partner Ann and three nephews.
Sergeant Neil Morrison, from the Aberdeenshire and Moray road policing unit, said: “Our investigation into what happened on Saturday continues and we would ask that anyone who has information contacts Police Scotland.”
