Two men who permanently disfigured their victim by kicking him in the head and body have narrowly escaped being imprisoned.
Graeme Rennie, 32, of Lawside Road, Dundee, and Geoffrey Williamson, 27, of Linn Road, Stanley, appeared for sentencing at Dundee Sheriff Court, having previously pleaded guilty to assaulting the man in Seagate on October 13.
Sentencing both men to a nine-month curfew, Sheriff Alistair Brown said: “This was a very serious matter and in the ordinary course of events this would have resulted in both of you going to prison.
“That would have had a catastrophic effect on both of you and I dare say you have both lost sleep over it.
“However, it is clear this incident started because of the behaviour of another and he was the one who started the violence.
“There was provocation but you went well overboard.”
They were each sentenced to a restriction of liberty order confining them to their homes between the hours of 7pm and 6am for the next nine months.
Sheriff Brown added: “That will be demanding and it will interfere with your lives to a significant effect and it will interfere with the lives of your families.
“However, it will be quite a lot less than if I sent you to prison for up to five years.”
