Hundreds of disabled parking bays removed in Dundee

More than 400 parking bays no longer needed by disabled householders have been removed across the city, according to a new report.
The report, by city development director Mike Galloway and which is to be considered by councillors next Monday, also notes that in 2013-14, 70 new parking bays have been created to help people with disabilities who qualify for a Blue Badge to park closer to their homes.
Councillor Will Dawson, convener of Dundee City Council’s city development committee, said: “Since the new regulations were introduced we have a duty to ensure that any disabled parking bays that are no longer required are removed, and equally to create such a space if it is needed.
“We are continually playing catch-up because the formal process for creating and deleting spaces takes time.
“But without the traffic orders that formally create or delete spaces, we cannot enforce the parking places identified solely for the use of disabled people.”
The committee is also being asked to approve traffic orders that will create 33 new bays and delete 14 that are no longer used.
