A man who brandished a meat cleaver outside a Dundee pub has been spared jail.
William Rattray, 26, had previously pleaded guilty to wielding the blade above his head and making threats outside the Three Barrels pub, Hilltown.
Depute fiscal Sue Ruta had told Dundee Sheriff Court that the complainer, a 24-year-old steward, was working on the door of the pub on November 17 last year.
The fiscal said: “At 10.55pm, the complainer was within the pub and heard a disturbance outside on the street.
“On exiting the pub he saw around 20 people shouting and arguing. He told them to move on, which the majority of them did.
“A short time later some of them returned and went inside, but three males remained outside on the other side of the street.
“Another disturbance happened within the pub and the complainer attempted to calm things down.
“He then went back outside and saw the accused who walked towards the complainer shouting ‘I’ll have you’.”
The court heard Rattray had a meat cleaver and held it above his head while walking towards the door steward.
The fiscal continued: “He was pushed away from the complainer by the three males and told to leave.
“The accused walked to the other side of the street and the complainer saw he still had the cleaver.”
Police were contacted and the meat clever was found under a car. Rattray was arrested and identified on CCTV.
Rattray, of Dunmore Street, Dundee, was sentenced to 200 hours of unpaid work for the crime.
He was also placed on supervision for 12 months and had a restriction of liberty order imposed on him for eight months.
