The family of a 101-year-old artist have paid tribute to her after she passed away nearly a year after her first exhibition.
Dorothy Strachan, who lived in Dundee her whole life, passed away peacefully on August 24.
Ms Strachan was a keen artist throughout her life, and was recognised for her work after her first exhibition last November.
She attended classes with Dundee artist James McIntosh Patrick and worked with Joe McIntyre.
She was a long-standing friend of the late Douglas Phillips, who painted many covers over the years for the People’s Friend.
Ms Strachan lived on Clepington Road for more than 80 years, then moved to Alpin Terrace before spending her final years in a care home.
Niece Pat Cameron paid tribute to the life her aunt had led.
She said: “She was a lovely person, so full of fun and full of laughter.
“My favourite memory with her is when me and all her friends went painting … It’s a nice memory.”
Pat also noted the happiness her aunt’s art brought to her and her pleasure at seeing others enjoy her watercolours.
She said: “Art was a hobby that she loved, but she was so generous with them.
“If someone mentioned that she liked one she was happy to give them it and would never charge.
“I’ve got a lot of them in my home right now and they’re wonderful.”
As well as being a keen painter, Ms Strachan worked as an architect for Tayside Health Board at Vernonholme in Dundee until she retired in the late 1970s.
