Dundee woman hurt in Sikh temple explosion takes legal action
ByThe Courier Reporter
A Dundee woman is taking legal action after she lost part of her leg in a kitchen explosion at a Sikh temple.
Kuljit Bahia, 54, was hurt in the kitchen area of the Sri Guru Nanak Gurdwara, on Nelson Street, in 2011.
It is believed a pressure cooker in the kitchen exploded, leaving the woman with what police described at the time as “life-changing” injuries.
A 37-year-old woman, who was also helping in the kitchen, suffered injuries to her legs in the blast.
In an action lodged with the Court of Session, Ms Bahia is now suing the Sikh community of Dundee and three people Manjit Singh Athwal, Satwant Bhachu, who both declined to comment, and Gurdev Singh.
All three are listed at the address of Sri Guru Nanak Gurdwara.
Gurdev Singh said: “I wasn’t even there at the time of the explosion I can’t believe this is happening. I only turned up once the police and ambulance had arrived.”
He added: “I don’t think anyone should be to blame for what happened. It was just an accident as far as I’m concerned.
“I didn’t even know she was suing me.”
Ms Bahia declined to comment.
