School pupils’ bags were targeted by a sneak-in thief at Dundee High School, Dundee Sheriff Court has heard.
Ian Mario Waterston, 41, of Soapwork Lane, pleaded guilty to his part in the theft of two iPads from children’s schoolbags which were left in a storage area on the school grounds.
Depute fiscal Jim Eodanable told the court the theft occurred from the area when children leave their bags, which he described as something between a pen and a cubbyhole on the outside of the building.
A tradesman who was working at the school noticed Waterston enter the school grounds and take a tablet from one of the bags.
Defence solicitor Ian Huston said Waterston had taken one of the stolen iPads only a short time after he had been released from prison.
He said: “He is ashamed that he stole from schoolchildren.”
Waterston was sentenced to eight-and-a-half months in prison, 77 days of which were the unexpired portion of a previous sentence.
Co-accused Lorna Gibb, 43, of Soapwork Lane, failed to appear for sentencing and a warrant was issued for her arrest.
