Police Scotland have launched an operation targeting anti-social behaviour by youths in the north of Dundee.
Operation Bedrock is focusing on Kirkton, following complaints from locals about repeated bad behaviour by some teenagers around Beauly Avenue, Ambleside Avenue and Asda on Derwent Avenue.
The Courier was given exclusive access to join police on their patrols.
We joined Kirkton’s community officer Constable Bob Young and Special Constable Lauren Elliott as they took to the streets.
PC Young said: “We’re trying to engage with the community that’s what we think is really important.
“When we are out on foot and patrolling the area people are much more likely to come up and have a chat with us, and even if they don’t talk to us the presence of police is enough to reassure a lot of people.”
Chief Inspector Conrad Trickett, area commander for Dundee North, said: “The police have increased both high-visibility uniform and plain clothes patrols to deter such behaviour and any associated criminality.
“This will continue for the foreseeable future.
“Our patrols are in support of community safety wardens and youth workers who are actively diverting young people in the area to more productive use of their time.”
He added: “We would encourage all young people and their families in the Kirkton area to actively engage with the community activities ongoing in the area rather than commit anti-social behaviour and vandalism.”
