Dundee’s city square was transformed into a ‘walking football’ tournament in celebration of World Elders’ Day.
Former professional players from Dundee FC and Dundee United FC turned out to give the game a go, playing out a 44 draw.
Even Lord Provost Bob Duncan traded his ceremonial chain for a yellow bib as the cross party councillor team took on the Fairmuir Social club.
The game is similar to 5 or 6 a side football, except if anyone run it is a foul.
The event was organised by the Dundee Pensioners’ Forum to try and find ways for older people to engage in sport and exercise.
Gordon Samson of the forum said the group had seen the game take off in Blackpool and wanted to bring it back to Dundee.
He said: “It seems to be popular in England but it hasn’t reached Dundee yet. We thought it would be a good way to kick start it in Dundee by having a game on World Elders’ Day.
“We are hoping to stimulate interest in the game and hopefully it will continue in the community.”
Around 80 people turned up either to take part or watch the event, which saw players compete in short matches, and everyone who wanted to play got the chance.
Jimmy Elder, also of the forum added: “We could maybe get a pub league started and that would help get a lot of guys out of the house.”
The event was supported by Leisure and Culture Dundee.
