Generous Jack raises hundreds for Malawi clinic at 99th birthday

One of Dundee’s oldest citizens has raised hundreds of pounds for a clinic in Malawi at his 99th birthday party.
Jack Stephen made a special trip to Westgate Medical Practice near Ninewells Hospital to present the £700 cheque to visiting Dr Matthews Mtumbuka, chairman of the Malawi-Scotland Partnership.
The money was raised by friends and family at his birthday party, and he donated the cash to Mr Mtumbuka at Westgate Medical Practice, watched by staff at the practice.
Mr Mtumbuka was visiting Westgate to see for himself how the staff and patients raise funds for their “twin clinic” in Zingwangwa, a township of Blantyre in Malawi.
While at the practice he accepted the cheque for £700 from Mr Stephen. This is the fourth year Mr Stephen has donated to the charity.
Dr Mtumbuka said he was humbled by the generosity and the strength of commitment of the people of Dundee.
