Mill o’ Mains residents have set a deadline of Friday for councillors to agree to an emergency meeting to save stranded bus passengers.
Residents have vowed to fight to save the number 36 bus service, which will be axed on October 20.
National Express Dundee are set to withdraw the number 36 connecting Claverhouse, Mill o’ Mains, Linlathen and Mid Craigie with the city centre.
Campaigners backed a call from Councillor Brian Gordon for a meeting of members and officials of the council’s city development and finance departments to address the issue.
Mill o’ Mains Tenants and Residents’ Association spokesman Jim Malone said: “If we don’t hear anything concrete by Friday in relation to a meeting between the transport department, councillors affected and ourselves, we will consider taking direct action against the bus company.
“We will give them until then to tell us when and where the meeting will be and to ensure that we are allowed a deputation that can speak at the meeting.
“We also want residents from Linlathen, Claverhouse and Mid Craigie to also have an input.”
Transport chiefs have claimed the area would not be cut off by the loss of the bus route and would be adequately serviced by existing services.
Mr Malone said: “The service is a lifeline for the community for attending shops, post offices, doctor surgeries, all different areas that the bus service currently goes through.”
Dundee City Council head of transportation, Neil Gellatly, said notices should appear on buses within the next few days advising passengers of the changes.
Mr Gellatly said: “Unfortunately, as was explained at the public meeting last month, Dundee City Council is not in a position to subsidise the reinstatement of the service.
“Although the withdrawal of Service 36 journeys will reduce travel options, it would be unfair to suggest that the Mill o’ Mains community is completely cut off.”
A National Express Dundee spokesperson said: “Residents near the route of the former 36 will continue to be well served by the 15 and 17 which run every 12 minutes every day between Happyhillock and the city centre. Customers in Mill o’Mains can also catch the 208, which operates during the day, and the 32, 33 and Outer Circle also connects locals with the city, passing Mill o’ Mains every half an hour, seven days a week.”
