An Ayr man glassed a guest at a Broughty Ferry wedding reception leaving his victim’s face covered in blood, a court heard.
Gary Cruickshank, 33, “stood and smiled” at Stephen Nelson, who was left scarred, after the unprovoked attack at the Woodlands Hotel.
Depute fiscal Eilidh Robertson told Dundee Sheriff Court the two men, who did not know each other, had both attended the event.
Mr Nelson was smoking a cigarette and began speaking to an unknown male, who made a reference to a local Dundee gang.
Ms Robertson said: “The complainer responded with a similar type comment relating to a different gang.”
Mr Nelson finished his cigarette and, as he did so, Cruickshank tapped him on the shoulder.
Ms Robertson said: “As he turned to see who it was, the accused struck him on the left side of the face with a glass tumbler. The glass shattered across his face causing him to bleed profusely.”
Cruickshank later claimed that Mr Nelson had fallen on to the glass.
Cruickshank, of Orchard Place, Ayr, admitted assaulting Mr Nelson to his injury and disfigurement on June 8.
Sheriff Elizabeth Munro deferred sentence until November 11.
