A German coach driver was harangued with racist abuse by a drunken group of Dundee men in their 50s, it has been claimed.
Broughty Ferry couple Frank and Audrey Murphy were left disgusted by the incident that unfolded on a trip to Edinburgh.
The gang of six men audibly made references to Auchwitz and called the driver “Hitler’s daughter” during the bus excursion to see the musical Jersey Boys in the capital.
Frank, 67, said the behaviour of their fellow passengers was inexcusable and claimed all of the men were drunk before they even boarded the David Urquhart Travel coach.
“I couldn’t believe what I was hearing, the comments they were making were completely outrageous,” he said.
“I’m actually shocked they got on the bus in the first place, they were clearly very drunk.”
Despite the abuse the coach driver acted professionally throughout the sickening episode.
Frank said her behaviour was “exceptional” in the face of the remarks which he branded “shocking abuse”.
“She kept calm, continued to drive, and did her job,” Frank said.
“We made sure to thank the driver for her work in a hard situation at the end of the trip.”
Audrey said the conduct of the six men made her ashamed to be from Dundee.
She claimed the men had made derogatory remarks to her and her husband after she confronted them.
“After the trip we made a complaint to the bus company and they told us that they were looking into it,” Audrey said.
“I have a lot of respect for the driver, she was very polite with them, and tried to take it with a bit of humour, but it was ridiculous.
“When we complained to the group they complained at us just being a bunch of ‘old wrinklies’, it was intimidating.”
It is understood the men travelled the full distance to Edinburgh but did not board the bus for the return journey.
A spokesman for David Urquhart Travel revealed the company were looking into the incident.
They said: “As we do with all customer complaints, we are conducting our own internal investigation on what happened as part of the Jersey Boys bus ride.”
