The widow of a footballing legend is encouraging people to reach their weight loss goal in his memory through a gruelling fitness challenge.

With only a few days left to take part, Good Health and Fitness is looking for 12 people to be put through their paces in a free weight loss and body transformation charity challenge.

A fundraiser for the Frank Kopel Dementia Awareness Campaign, Transform Me Training 2015 (TMT) will see those selected training five days a week for three months, followed by a Big Brother-style eviction.

The former Dundee United player’s wife, Amanda, said fitness was very important to Frank and she wished the successful applicants all the best for the challenge ahead.

Amanda said: “Frankie used to say no pain, no gain. Frank was more used to defending the goal, but these 12 people will be trying to reach their weight-loss goal.

“You can do anything you set your mind to, and hopefully these 12 people will also be able to encourage others to do the same.”

The deadline to apply for the free personal training challenge is Friday, and application forms can be requested by emailing events@goodhealthandfitness.co.uk or by texting 07900 806762.

The 12 people selected by the gym to go forward with the programme will be required to train five days a week, Monday to Friday 8 to 9am, with a weekly weigh-in every Monday with a personal trainer.

After the first month the two candidates who have lost the least percentage of body weight will be up for eviction via Facebook, although they will be encouraged to take part in the free training until the end of the competition.

Event organiser Laura Shepherd said they chose to support the campaign after hearing Frank and Amanda’s story.

She said: “Frank Kopel lived a life of good health and fitness, something he strongly believed in, but, sadly, when he was stricken with dementia the support for him, Amanda and their family was not available.

“Amanda and her team are working extremely hard to improve the quality of life for other dementia sufferers and their families.”

The challenge will help raise funds for the Frank Kopel Dementia Awareness Campaign through sponsorship as well as by taking part in two fund-raising events organised through the gym.
