Scare for pilot as wheel collapses on landing at Dundee Airport
ByThe Courier Reporter
A PILOT had a lucky escape at Dundee Airport when the front wheel of his plane failed on landing.
The Tayside Aviation pilot managed to walk away unscathed from his crumpled light aircraft, which landed with its nose and propeller slammed on the tarmac after suffering a “nosewheel collapse” on Tuesday.
The airport fire service was on the scene quickly and airport authorities closed the runway, shutting off a main route into the city.
However, the pilot, who was the sole occupant, was able to dust himself down and, after ground staff looked over the plane on the runway, he helped haul his aircraft back to base.
He declined to comment but Tayside Aviation confirmed he was uninjured.
The flying school would not comment further but a spokesman for Dundee Airport said the cause of the failure will be investigated.
