Jealousy led Dundee man to shatter victim’s jaw with single punch

A man who shattered another man’s jaw after he saw him kissing his girlfriend in the street was ordered to pay him £2,000 in compensation.
Kenneth Robert James Smith, 22, of Colonsay Terrace, Dundee, was also placed on a two-year supervised community payback order and a seven-month restriction of liberty order when he appeared for sentence on Monday.
Smith had previously admitted assaulting Dean Johnston in Ormiston Crescent on March 4 last year.
The court heard he had been drinking heavily.
He went home and his girlfriend went out with friends. She shared a taxi up the road with a male friend.
When Smith saw them embracing in the street outside their home he lost his temper and punched Mr Johnston once.
The court heard the blow caused severe injury, fracturing the victim’s jaw.
Sheriff George Way told Smith he was lucky as there had been cases where one punch had caused death after victims hit their head.
