Three years’ jail for Dundee man who left partner unconscious after attack

A man who left his partner unconscious after an attack has been jailed for three years.

Victor John Duncan, 39, Fullarton Street, was appearing for sentence on Thursday having previously admitted assaulting Dawn Hogg at his home address on January 5 last year by repeatedly punching her on the head, repeatedly striking her on the body and causing her to lose consciousness, all to her severe injury.

Defence agent Gary McIlravey told Dundee Sheriff Court that Duncan had a history of alcohol abuse.

Sheriff Brown told Duncan: “Dawn Hogg was your girlfriend, she was alone, she was intoxicated and for that and other reasons she was vulnerable.

“You assaulted her, you beat her, it may be reasonable to say that you battered her.”

The sheriff said Ms Hogg suffered a broken nose and was bleeding when Duncan left her without help.

“It is hard to find any mitigation in this case. I have come to the conclusion that imprisonment is the only appropriate disposal.”
