Time called on Dundee’s Balcony Bar after customers dry up
ByThe Courier Reporter
A lack of customers has been blamed as the reason for the shock closure of a Dundee nightspot.
The “gutted” owners of the Balcony Bar on Ward Road said they hope that if it ever opens again it will be “properly supported”.
In a statement released on their Facebook page, the Balcony Bar team said: “As many of you have already heard, the Balcony Bar has had to close its doors.
“We’d like to thank those of you who visited us and we hope the time you spent there was memorable.”
The bar’s demise follows the notable closure of the Tasting Rooms in Whitehall Crescent earlier this year and popular King Street establishment Sinatra’s which is still lying empty calling last orders in April 2011.
Jon Walton, chairman of the city centre traders’ group DD1, said the overall picture for city centre establishments was positive.
He added: “I’ve had no reports suggesting a cause for concern. It’s a tough market, but, with new additions like Malmaison, there seems to be a lot of confidence in Dundee as a market place.
“The overall picture is positive. Dundee has good, quality offerings and great establishments of a very high standard.”
