A campaign to bring Swedish furniture retailer IKEA to Dundee has now gained close to 10,000 supporters.
The Facebook group aims to show there is enough demand to open up a new shop in the city, which would save people having to make journeys down to Edinburgh and Glasgow.
There are now suggestions the campaign group has attracted the attention of the company’s decision makers, sparking fresh hopes of Ikea coming soon.
There was speculation yesterday that the retail giant may already have a contractor in place to build a shop in Dundee and construction could begin as early as next year.
There were a few suggestions for where a new Ikea shop would be located, with many centring on the Kingsway where there are already many large commercial sites.
The administrator for the Dundee Ikea Campaign said: “Well done, we’re nearly at the important milestone of 10,000 likes.
“Let’s keep up the great work and keep up the momentum and make Ikea see just how popular that opening here in Dundee would be.”
No plans have been lodged with the council and Ikea was not able to comment.
