Jail and six-year stadium ban for Dundee United fan who ‘can’t keep away’ from football violence

A football hooligan who goaded opposition fans to fight before clashing with police has been jailed for nine months.
Dundee United fan Lee Stewart was also handed a six-year football banning order after badgering Patrick Thistle supporters outside Tannadice in November.
Stewart, who according to his solicitor “can’t keep away” from football violence, had initially told officers, who were acting on intelligence, that he was not attending the match.
But when the match ended at around 4.45pm, Stewart was spotted by police baiting Partick Thistle supporters who were returning to their buses.
Stewart, 21, of Baldovie Gardens, Dundee, pleaded guilty on summary complaint to one charge under the Offensive Behaviour at Football and Threatening Communications Act, and a second of resisting, obstructing or hindering two police officers.
