Search for driver of van that struck boy in Dundee hit-and-run
ByThe Courier Reporter
Police are searching for a van driver after a young boy was struck in a hit-and-run on Victoria Road.
The incident happened at a bus stop around 3.30pm on Wednesday and eyewitness watched as a female passenger got out of the van but got back in as the male driver drove off.
A witness told The Courier she heard the noise of the van hitting the boy, who she believed to be around 10.
She said: “There was a mass gasp from lots of people who were gathered around the crossing. I think the van may have come down the Hilltown and done an illegal left turn from the angle it was at.
“The van pulled up at the first bus stop and the woman passenger got out and started walking towards the people.
“Another woman shouted, ‘you shouldn’t have even been doing that’ and the woman walked back and they drove off. The driver didn’t even attempt to get out, but somebody got the registration.”
The boy was not thought to be injured.
A police spokesperson said: “We received a call around 3.30pm to a hit and run incident. There are no injuries reported and inquiries are continuing.
“Anyone with any information is asked to call Police Scotland on 101.”
