ByAndrew Argo
An elderly motorist who died on Tuesday night after his car crashed into a wall in Dundee has today been named by police.
Douglas Grewar, who was 77 and from Dundee, is understood to have taken ill at the wheel as he drove westwards on Harefield Road about 9.50pm.
His blue Ford Fiesta crossed into the opposing lane before mounting the pavement and striking a wall.
A passer-by raised the alarm and called the emergency services who rushed to the scene on the westbound carriageway close to the entrance to the Stack retail park.
As police closed the road paramedics worked to stabilise Mr Grewar’s condition and free him from the vehicle with the help of a fire crew.
He was then taken by ambulance to Ninewells Hospital, where sadly he died a short time later.
The westbound lane remained closed between Balfield Road and the Stack park to allow an investigation to be carried out.
Anyone who witnessed the incident is asked to contact Police Scotland Tayside division on 101, or speak to any police officer.
