Abertay University has begun deciding which of its employees will be allowed to leave under a voluntary severance scheme.
Applications were sought as a cost-cutting measure, although management have said that no specific target has been set for the number of posts to be lost.
Staff had until the end of last week to register their wish to leave.
A spokesman said: “We have received a number of applications, which we will be considering during April.
“Each application will be assessed according to the university’s business needs and severance will only be agreed if there is no detrimental impact on our operations by the loss of essential skills or experience.
“At this stage it’s too early to say how many staff will eventually be granted voluntary severance.”
The scheme was open to staff with at least two years’ service who were not about to retire.
It was set up to deal with funding pressures.
The university has more than 500 employees costing around £22 million a year.
Dundee University is expecting to lose between 80 and 120 academic posts through its own voluntary severance scheme, further details of which are expected to be agreed by the university court on April 22.
An online petition protesting against these cuts has attracted more than 800 signatures.
