A fire in the derelict and unsafe Strathmartine Hospital is believed to have been started deliberately.
Firefighters spent an hour and a half tackling a small fire within a block of the former hospital which was full of smoke.
The first crew to arrive requested assistance from a further two appliances and the situation was quickly brought under control.
Firefighters used four sets of breathing apparatus and two hose reel jets to extinguish the fire before clearing the smoke with a large ventilation fan.
Station manager Fraser Scott oversaw the incident and said there was little doubt the fire was started deliberately as the building has no power and is in an isolated location.
He said: “When we arrived there was quite an extensive amount of smoke coming out. There was a small fire inside with debris and because the building is enclosed it filled with smoke.
“Initially two teams went in with jets strategically going through to extinguish the fire while searching for anyone who might be inside, but found no one.
“If it had been left any longer it could have been a lot more difficult.”
He added: “The message we would like to give to the owners of any derelict property is to ensure it is left in a secure condition to prevent anyone getting access to it.
“Derelict properties are dangerous places to be and there is the potential for anyone entering to hurt themselves. There is the potential that firefighters going in may become injured due to the dangerous actions of others.”
The alarm was raised by a member of the public who reported seeing smoke rising from the area just after 6pm on Wednesday and fire crews left the area at 7.30pm.
