A man was left permanently disfigured after being bottled by two thugs on a train, Dundee Sheriff Court has heard.
Kyle Lappin, 21, and Stuart Roy, 41, were both found guilty of violently assaulting David Lyden on the train as it passed through Angus.
The shocking incident occurred at a point on the line between Carnoustie and Monifieth, on a train from Aberdeen to Glasgow.
The pair were found guilty of repeatedly punching and kicking Mr Lyden on the head and body, as well as smashing a bottle over his head.
The jury took just under two and a half hours to deliver a majority guilty verdict to both yobs, with Lappin visibly emotional after the verdict.
He was told by the sheriff that “there is no inevitability about a custodial sentence in this case” and that his case could potentially be resolved in the community.
However, Roy, who was on licence at the time of the December 20 assault, was told that he would almost certainly face a custodial sentence.
Sentencing was deferred on the pair until May 2, awaiting reports.
Roy, of Perth Prison, was remanded in custody, while Lappin, of Lomond Court, Coatbridge, had his bail continued.
