Rare pictures of legendary American showman Buffalo Bill taken during his celebrated visit to Dundee 110 years ago have been rounded up by The McManus: Dundee’s art gallery and museum.
One photograph shows him standing at Dundee’s waterfront in 1904.
The second shows two Native Americans and their horses who toured with the Wild West Show, which came to the city for three days and was seen by 74,000 people.
They were bought for The McManus with help from the Scottish Government’s National Fund for Acquisitions from Cowan’s Auction House in Cincinnati after being released by the showman’s great-granddaughter.
Lord Provost Bob Duncan, chair of Leisure and Culture Dundee, said: “I have a keen interest in Dundee’s past and I think it is great we now have these rare snapshots.
“It is a very interesting and intriguing part of the city’s history and I am glad they are now on display for lots of people to see.
“The addition of these early prints helps to strengthen the city’s permanent collection of historic photographs.”
