Former DC Thomson employee and keen bowler John (Jack) Taylor has died at the age of 87.
Born in 1926 in the West End, he was educated at Logie School before he began an apprenticeship with Kilpatrick engineers in Albert Square.
In 1944 he left to serve with the Royal Army Service Corps and ended up in Germany just after VE Day. Mr Taylor spent 3 years with the corps, much of the time as a despatch rider in Germany.
When he returned home, he joined DC Thomson in 1950 and worked for the next 15 years on night shift in the despatch department, latterly as deputy overseer.
He married his wife Rena in 1950 in the Regal Rooms after they had first met at the bus stop in 1948. Their son David was born in 1953 and daughter Irene in 1956.
In 1965 he moved to day shift. Mr Taylor was also well-known within the Thomson-Leng Musical Society, working behind the scenes on productions for around 20 years.
He finally retired after nearly 40 years with DC Thomson. A keen bowler, he was a member of Balgay, Magdalen Green and Lochee clubs.
He also loved travelling and watching films and old musicals. He is survived by Rena, his children, children-in-law, six grandchildren and great-grandson Archie.
