A total of £12,000 has been presented to Amanda Kopel for the continuing care of her husband and ex-footballer Frank after a series of fundraising events.
In the space of five weeks, Gordon McKay and former Dundee United player Hamish McAlpine managed to raise the sum through various events, includinga bucket collection at the Dundee United v Kilmarnock match and a sponsored walk.
A cheque presentation attended by former players and friends took place at the Taxi Club, Rosebank Street, and both Gordon and Hamish expressed their deepest thanks for the generosity of those who contributed.
As Mr Kopel fell ill in his fifties, he did not qualify for any financial help, since you have to be over 65.
After efforts by Amanda, who took her fight to the Scottish Parliament where she was given one minute to state her reasons to change this law, a White Paper is being drawn up to give younger sufferers and their families a chance to apply for aid.
