A wealthy European law student downed wine at a jazz concert before speeding around Dundee city centre, a court has heard.
Sarah Wiederspiel-Dahlem, a 23-year-old from Toulouse, France, had attended the chic event with a friend to relax after finishing a lengthy piece of work.
Dundee Sheriff Court heard on Thursday how, after leaving the soiree, police had spotted Wiederspiel-Dahlem driving fast on West Marketgait at around 8.50pm.
After pursuing and stopping her, officers smelt alcohol and breathalysed her, finding her to have a blood alcohol level almost double the legal limit.
Wiederspiel-Dahlem, of Hawkhill, Dundee, pled guilty to driving along West Marketgait, Hawkhill and Session Street with excess alcohol (69 mics) on March 21.
She was disqualified from driving for a year and fined £300.
In his mitigation, her solicitor David Duncan said she decided to drive after her friend was taken ill at the jazz event.
“She had been to a jazz concert that evening, which is not the usual prelude for criminal behaviour,” he said. “She had a few glasses of wine.
“Perhaps she was not as accustomed to drinking as much as other people her age.”
He added that Wiederspiel-Dahlem was a competent student and that this conviction could create significant problems for her legal career in France.
