Traders are braced for major roadworks which will close Broughty Ferry’s main artery from Friday.
Queen Street is to close in both directions for 15 days for resurfacing work and the car park near Gray Street is also expected to be shut for the duration of the works.
Jim Quinn, director of Nisa, on the junction with Gray Street, said: “The roadworks are definitely going to have a big impact, especially on older people who can’t manage the stairs under the railway line.”
Another Queen Street business owner concerned about access said: “It will be chaos. It will have an impact on my business because of our elderly customers who normally stop at the door.”
However, Sandro Paladini, secretary of the Broughty Ferry Traders’ Association, said while the works would be disruptive, the business group recognised now is the best time to do it.
He said: “It is vital that works like these are done before the busy summer tourist season starts.
“The works are absolutely needed. Queen Street does have areas in need of attention which is widely recognised by residents and traders.”
The roadworks will be completed in two phases, starting from April 25.
A Dundee City Council spokesman said: “Diversions will be signposted and pedestrian access will be maintained during the works.”
