A lorry has shed its trailer on the Kingsway, causing chaos for evening rush-hour traffic.
The lorry’s trailer toppled over on to the road while it was negotiating the roundabout near the junction with Myrekirk Road just after 5pm.
Both westbound lanes were initially closed, but police were able to reopen one at around 6pm.
The accident happened at a pedestrian crossing, and witnesses said it was lucky no-one had been hurt.Click here for a full photo galleryEmergency services attended the accident with four fire engines, including a specialist rescue appliance, but the fire service was not needed as no one was trapped.
Police warned of significant delays at the scene until the trailer, which was carrying peat, was removed. Motorists were asked to avoid the area.
Officers say they were able to open one lane to help tackle traffic backlogs, but wouldn’t attempt to remove the lorry until traffic died down as the recovery meant closing both lanes again.
The route was finally declared clear again at around 6am on Friday.
