Professor Seth Schor, one of Dundee’s most eminent academics, has died after a short illness.
Prof Schor moved to Dundee from Manchester in August 1994 to take up the position of Chair in Cell and Molecular Biology in the Dental School.
He continued his research in molecular mechanisms in cancer biology and in tissue engineering, which was internationally recognised and related mainly to wound healing and the forming of new blood vessels.
He undertook a term as Sub-Dean for Research, steering Dundee through a successful submission to the RAE in 2001.
Prof Schor retired from the Dental School in 2008, but such was his enthusiasm for research that, despite ill health, he continued his work as Emeritus Professor in the School of Engineering, Physics and Mathematics.
He is survived by his wife Ana, who was his partner in life and also throughout his scientific career, and daughter Sarah.
Apart from his innovative science, he will be remembered for his cheerful disposition, sharp wit and his kindness to colleagues.
