A Dundee man was returned to jail after a jury at the sheriff court found him guilty of stabbing another man.
Michael Purvey, 32, of Perth Prison, was convicted of assault by repeatedly striking a man on the body with a knife, or similar instrument, and punching him to the head and body to his injury.
The incident took place at the Dundee Survival Group sheltered housing on Foundry Lane on January 16.
The jury returned a guilty verdict after a four-day trial.
Sentencing Purvey, Sheriff Kenneth McFarlane said his record and previous conviction for carrying a knife were an aggravating factor in his case.
Sheriff McFarlane said: “You have been found guilty of a serious offence of assault with a weapon causing injury which is always a very serious matter. You were on licence at the time in respect of your last prison sentence so prison is the only appropriate sentence.”
Purvey was returned to prison for 90 days, the unexpired portion of his previous sentence, with a further 12 months imposed for the assault.
Sheriff McFarlane added: “We want to deter people from carrying knives as there is always the risk they will use it.”
