A court has been shown CCTV footage of a mass brawl outside a Dundee city centre nightclub in which four men were knocked unconscious.
The video was shown at a sentencing hearing for four men who admitted committing various charges of assault and breach of the peace last summer.
Dundee Sheriff Court heard that, following the disturbance in South Ward Road, two of the men were involved in a stand-off with police firearms officers behind a nearby hotel.
Scott Fraser, 23, of Catterline Crescent, Terry Montgomery, 21, of Birmingham, Brian Borland, 24, of Pitairlie Road, and Bobby Lee Borland, 21, of West Bromwich, all admitted reduced charges, which were accepted by the Crown shortly before all five were due to go on trial before a jury.
The court was told that Bobby Borland and Montgomery had visited Dundee following the death of a family member and that all four accused had attended Fat Sam’s nightclub.
The court was shown CCTV footage taken after the club closed where the men and other patrons were seen in the street outside.
Depute fiscal Susan Ruta said: “Brian Borland and a male wearing an orange shirt began to argue across the street.
“A man stepped forward to assist and Brian Borland punched him, knocking him to the floor. As the male fell to the ground, Fraser kicked him once to the rear of the head. A large-scale fight then broke out.”
Police arrived on the scene where they found three men lying on the ground, apparently unconscious.
Brian Borland and Montgomery gave themselves up after a stand-off at the rear of a nearby hotel, where they had taken refuge on a raised platform.
Fraser admitted that on July 18 last year, at South Ward Road, he assaulted a person whose identity is unknown to the prosecutor and kicked him on the head, while on bail.
Montgomery admitted that on the same date and place, he assaulted a person unknown, punched him on the head and knocked him to the ground, assaulted Andrew Hodge, repeatedly punched him on the head, all to his injury, and behaved in a threatening or abusive manner, acted aggressively, challenged police officers to fight, threatened them with violence and refused to surrender to them.
Brian Borland admitted assaulting six people, rendering four of them unconscious, and behaving in a threatening or abusive manner, acting aggressively, challenging police officers to fight, threatening them with violence and refusing to surrender.
Bobby Lee Borland admitted he assaulted Andrew Hodge, repeatedly punched him on the head, all to his injury.
Remanding all but Bobby Borland in custody, Sheriff Alastair Brown said: “These offences in different ways are too serious to justify bail, now that the presumption of innocence no longer applies.”
Sentence was deferred for reports until June 9.
