A young engaged couple have clicked, clicked and clicked again to win the happiest day of their lives.
Alasdair Rae from Dundee met Susan Macmillan from Alva through an online dating site.
They hit it off and became engaged, and then entered a competition on another site to win £15,000 to spend on their wedding.
They won and are now happily planning for their big day in Glasgow on August 31, knowing most of the costs have been covered.
“We’re thrilled and thank everyone who supported us in the competition,” said Alasdair, 30, a former pupil of Morgan Academy who works in IT in Glasgow for financial services company JP Morgan.
“Everything was already booked for our wedding venue, outfits, the lot and the money we have won will pay most of the bills.”
Alasdair and Susan, 31, a medical student, had to collect online votes from as many people as possible to win the wedding prize.
“We asked relatives and friends and their relatives and friends to back us by clicking on to the site,” he explained.
“Then Susan bought a £15 wedding dress from a charity shop and went on to the campus of Glasgow University to appeal to people to vote for us. This might have been the extra help we needed.
“It is great to win the prize because for a while it was looking like we might have had to put the wedding off to save our money.”
Alasdair and Susan have been on a high from the moment they met 18 months ago.
Susan, who is 5ft 11in, signed on to the dating site on a friend’s recommendation because she found her options with tall men limited.
At 6ft 8in, Alasdair fitted the bill perfectly. He had also been signed up by his friend, who thought it was time he stopped sitting around on the couch waiting for life to happen.
His kind friend picked out some tall women for Alasdair to message.
Susan was one of those women. Her profile contained only a picture of her head, her height and listed her occupation as “medical student.”
Less than 24 hours later they met and are highly delighted that they did.
