Police on the lookout for copper thieves after Dundee building site raided

Police are searching for thieves who stole copper cable from a building site on Hebrides Drive, Dundee.

Around 40m of cable was taken from five houses under construction. The theft is believed to have happened between 5.30pm on May 7 and 8am on May 8.

This is not the first incident at this development, and police are appealing for witnesses who have any information to contact Police Scotland on 101.

A police spokeswoman said: “Clearly there is a black market for all kinds of metal and police engage with people in the scrap metal business to try and seek their assistance in tackling this issue.

“Building sites are not the only locations that can be subject to metal theft and businesses have a role to play in reducing the chances of their becoming victims of crime.

“Police Scotland asks the public to be vigilant and report any suspicious activity immediately to the police.”
